planning pitching and pricing

After having planned out the basic mechanism of the head, I tried to get my solid works form to get cnc routed  for the presentation using the 3d labs cnc router. unfortunatly this coresponded with a week product design had booked out the use for an assessment.

back on a collective level we created a scale model of the course, with our proposed features and refinements. The entire solution was then pitched by a group of 3 students + a tutor and bill from weta who helped out with the mechanics.

After this they selected which projects they wanted to look further into.
from second hand accounts my heads went down well, and the wrotethat it was one of the ones they seemed keen to develop on.

Then a consultation was mooted by the client with each respective group. This process was hijacked by James, requiring pricings to deal with the budget before further consultation was taken. this severly impacted my project as I had a concept and mechanisim. but the dimensions of the obstacle weren't yet detirmined (which being the only project that propperly affects gameplay would have been couteous to consult with the owners) or a parts designed for cost effecincy. which are sort of vital when doing part by part pricing.

The proposed method use plate steel that has been machined using a cnc router into discs.
steel rod will be used as spacers.
the head will have a metal plate top and a pipe through it and a mounting plate.
this will be mounted inside a steel tube

The required parts of the assembly then will be weilded together to complete the parts.

This method means I have more control over the production and can create prescison parts to tighter tollerances than I could create manualy. it also is able to be made quicker than hand. the only downside is the only cnc router capable of milling and set up to mill steel at AUT is in the engineering department. and often has an exoborant waiting list. not to mention being a different department. a task that will either be simple or be akin to previous attempts which resemble a primary school disco, neither boys or girls are capable of looking eachother in the eyes let alone work up the courage to walk across the room to ask the other to dance.

The contigency plan is to get it water cut. which adds undetermined cost to the project.

I'm looking foward to pitching the product of weeks of work to the client without the forced handholding the other groups had, even if it dosn't get the go ahead. I'd be happy with just having been able to pitch it myself and having a self funded small scale proof of concept version.
